Barry McGovern Reads Samuel Beckett
as part of Culture Night 2024
Acclaimed as one of the world’s greatest Samuel Beckett interpreters, Barry McGovern comes to Dún Laoghaire for a very special performance. Reading from selected poems and prose, Barry will bring to life the words of Beckett, highlighting the wit, humour and wisdom of the Nobel Prize winner and local literary legend.
Barry is one of Ireland’s most skilled and experienced actors, who has had a long career in theatre, film, television and radio. He is regarded by many as one of the leading exponents of the work of Samuel Beckett.
His one-man Beckett shows I'll Go On and Watt have played worldwide. He has toured internationally with the Gate productions of Waiting for Godot, Endgame and Happy Days, and his performance in Krapp's Last Tape won him an Angel
award at the Edinburgh International Festival.McGovern played Vladimir in the Beckett-on-Film Waiting for Godot and in 2012 he played the same part in the acclaimed production of Godot at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles which garnered him an Ovation Award leading actor nomination.
At Pavilion Theatre he has played in Educating Rita, Faith Healer and Watt. Last year he played in the Irish premiere of Stumped. His most recent film Fidil Ghorm is just about to be released.
