Manchán Magan: Arán & Im
Language, Memory, and the Magic of Bread
“Shall we bake bread together and churn some butter, and talk about things that really matter?”
Asking is bestselling writer and documentary filmmaker Manchán Magan (Rewilding the Mind, Listen to the Land Speak, 32 Words for Field), the presenter of this 75-minute bilingual show, which explores what make the Irish language so unique and potent.
Magan bakes sourdough bread while offering insights into the wonders of Gaeilge – exploring potent words of landscape, terms of intuition and insight, and the many phrases that bring to life the mysterious glory of our natural world.
The show is a celebration of language, land and local Irish food, with freshly-baked bread for the audience to spread with butter they churn themselves.
