Jóhann Jóhannsson: Drone Mass
as part of Between the Notes
Experience Jóhann Jóhannsson’s mesmerising Drone Mass, with Chamber Choir Ireland and Crash Ensemble as two of Ireland’s leading ensembles join together in a mesmerising soundscape of voices, strings, and electronics.
The late Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson was a singular talent, as celebrated for his theatre and film scores (including The Theory of Everything, Arrival and Sicario) as for his orchestral work (including Orphée). Since his untimely death in 2018, Drone Mass has come to be regarded as the Icelandic composer’s crowning achievement.
Drone Mass isn’t really a mass. It’s a mysterious and richly atmospheric work inspired by ancient Egyptian Coptic hymn. Following the enormous success of last year’s sold-out Irish Premiere at Kilkenny Arts Festival, Crash Ensemble and Chamber Choir Ireland now bring this iconic work on tour under Guest Conductor, Gabriel Crouch.
