Community activists stepped up to fight for the Dublin's inner city, including firebrand independent Tony Gregory. In the second election of three in 1982, Tony took a surprise Dáil Seat.
Aware of how crucial indepenent votes were, Taoiseach Charles Haughey courted Gregory, coming up with the most radical anti-poverty scheme in Irish history. Hear the full story of how the so-called Gregory Deal came about, and what became of it, in Haughey|Gregory.
